Day to Day Itinerary
- Day 1
As a guest traveling on the Antarctica Bridge sailing, you'll enjoy private charter flights between Punta Arenas, Chile and King George Island. This 2-hour flight will be in business class, providing extra legroom for your comfort. A regionally inspired lunch is included, and a member of the Silversea Expedition Team will accompany you on both your outbound and inbound flights.
Upon arrival to King George Island, embark the ship located at the largest of the South Shetland Islands. King George serves as the gateway to Antarctica, located just 120 kilometers from the Antarctic Peninsula and home to the only airport in the region. Over 10 nations maintain year-round or seasonal scientific research stations here, a significant achievement given that 90% of the island is covered by snow and ice. The island also hosts a Russian Orthodox church with a permanent priest. While a few international scientists reside here, they are outnumbered by diverse wildlife, including Adelie, Chinstrap, and Gentoo penguins, along with Weddell and leopard seals. The island attracts a variety of bird life, such as skuas and southern giant petrels, drawn by its relatively warm climate (with average temperatures between 1.5 and -6.5˚C). Discovered by British explorer in 1819, the island was named after King George III and has been claimed by Chile (1940) and Argentina (1943), yet remains part of the British Antarctic Territory. - Day 2-6
The Antarctic Peninsula extends toward South America, inviting adventurous souls to explore its untamed beauty. Just 620 miles from Tierra del Fuego, it offers a stunning introduction to the snow-covered landscapes and colossal ice formations of Earth’s least-explored continent. Discovered in 1820, this area promises an exhilarating experience in the extraordinary unknown. Research bases dot the peninsula, leading scientific efforts to understand its unique ecosystem and the effects of human activity on this pristine environment. Get up close to cathedral-sized icebergs and blue glaciers, like those at Hope Bay, while admiring the blanched mountain peaks and thriving colonies of adorable Adelie penguins in this remarkable setting. - Day 7
Fly back to Punta Arenas from King George Island.
