Hillary and I spent a week in July exploring the west coast of Greenland aboard Lindblad National Geographic's newest exploration vessel, the National Geographic Resolution. As a pioneer in the industry, founder Sven Lindblad and his expert team of explorers distilled over 65 years of experience into designing what is quite simply the perfect platform to explore our planet's remote wilderness in epic style.
Carrying only 138 guests, the National Geographic Resolution and her sister ship, the National Geographic Endurance, are incredibly well-designed. With a Goldilocks number of guests, virtually matched 1:1 with an expert crew and expedition team, these vessels showcase some of the industry's best innovations: the highest ice class rating - Polar Class 5 (PC5) - enables them to literally break the ice in polar regions, while the environmentally sensitive dynamic positioning eliminates the need to drop anchor.
The Resolution and Endurance stand out as two nimble, elegant, and efficient ships where every detail is conceived to offer the most comfortable stay and the most intimate experience with the journey's destination.
From the state-of-the-art garage to deploy the Zodiacs (a creation that would make Tony Stark proud) to the subtle Scandinavian interiors, one's eyes are constantly drawn outside to the vistas and wildlife beyond the ship. The cabins are spacious and thoughtfully arranged, with ample storage space, comfortable ensuite bathrooms, and many offering private balconies.
While the Resolution and Endurance are expertly designed to explore the most remote corners of the globe, it is their welcoming and outgoing crew and staff that truly elevates the experience aboard, making it the real strength of National Geographic - Lindblad Expeditions.
They anticipate every need, and the depth of knowledge and expertise among the naturalists and lecturers is what sets traveling with them apart.
These ships have genuinely set a new bar for sport activity vessels, and I look forward to helping more guests travel aboard the Resolution and Endurance - and, of course, returning to sail again soon!
